Bikepacking Clinic - Dubuque
October 10-11, 2026
Bicycle World is excited to welcome an Adventure Together Bikepacking Clinic with Bespoke Bikepacking Adventure Co. to Dubuque.
This clinic is designed to help participants develop the skills, systems, and confidence that they need to take on their own self-supported bikepacking adventures. Over three days and two nights, we will learn new concepts and practice with our skills and gear in real world settings as we share a bikepacking adventure.
The focus of this adventure is not on speed or distance, it’s not about having it all figured out or not making mistakes. Adventure Together is about gaining real world experience with our gear and systems, practicing new skills, forming good habits, learning what works and what doesn’t, making adjustments, gaining confidence and increasing preparedness.
Where?
The adventure begins in Dubuque, IA and explores the surrounding area.
When?
Oct. 10-11
Is this for you?
Do you have the bike, the bags, the gear, and the desire – everything you need to hop on your bike and head off on a bikepacking adventure – but find yourself struggling to get out the door and actually go? This clinic is for you.
Have you tried a couple of adventures but find yourself still intimidated by the process? Or fearful of what might go wrong and what you will do? This clinic is for you.
What will we do?
Together we will cover the basics of familiarizing ourselves with a route, packing our bikes, paying attention to where we are at, taking care of our bodies and equipment, recognizing issues early, and responding to challenges as they arise.
We will spend a half day inside familiarizing ourselves with a route and learning to use our planning tools. The rest of the time will be spent riding and practicing different skills as we go.
Distance?
We will cover roughly 20 miles each day on a mix of gravel and pavement with frequent stops to talk about concepts and practice skills.
Lodging?
This route is best suited to camping.
Cost?
Bicycle World is committed to growing community and reducing barriers. They are excited to offer this opportunity at a minimal cost to participants. Bicycle World will cover the cost of enrollment (a $500 value)
Participants are asked to contribute $50 to reserve their spot and are responsible for their individual expenses – mostly food and lodging.
How Many?
Space is limited to 6 participants.
Requirements?
Participants must bring their own bike and gear.
A general gear list will be provided to help you pack. However, part of this experience is working with what you have and what you think you will need, learning what works for you and what doesn’t.
Your bike should be capable of carrying your gear on a hilly, mixed surface route including pavement and gravel.
Participants must by physically capable of riding and/or pushing a loaded bike up to 30 miles in a day on a route that includes some large hills and rough terrain.
Participants must be willing to learn and work together with a group to achieve a common goal.
Difficulty Level?
This route contains some gravel sections and long climbs. Physical and technical difficulty is beginner to intermediate.
E-bike friendly?
There may not be overnight charging options, but an e-bike will work if it has a range of at least 50 miles.
